Keyfrost Environmental Sensitivity
European regulation 517/2014 establishes the rules relating to the marketing of HFC-containing equipment and products. One-piece refrigerant machines fall under item 12 and may use refrigerant gases with GWP less than 2500. Keyfrost produces ranges of monoblocks that use different refrigerants including R449A, R290, R455A etc.
Given the increasingly stringent regulations and the technological availability, Keyfrost wanted to develop and support, above all, the expansion of the monoblock range using R455A refrigerant. Where possible it is therefore recommended to use monoblocks at R455A and/or R290. R455A machines have a 90% lower environmental impact, due to the refrigerant charge, in terms of CO2eq.

Use of ultra-low GWP refrigerants
The new range of Keyfrost monoblocks includes the use of natural refrigerants at very low GWP. With a GWP of only 3, the R290 stands as a solution for the future of small-scale commercial refrigeration for low and medium temperatures.
Our tests have also demonstrated a significant advantage in terms of TEWI which depends on the GWP but also on all the design solutions adopted.
Minor limit charge of 150g:
R290 is classified A3 meaning it is not toxic but is highly
flammable. Depending on the application and the available volume, it is possible to calculate a maximum refrigerant charge that makes the machine safe from any accidents related to the flammability of the fluid.
Below 150g refrigerant charge there are application limits as 150g is never sufficient to create a potentially hazardous atmosphere.
The Keyfrost R290 monoblocks are all loaded with 150g
or not with a refrigeration circuit.

Destinations of use, intended and unintended use
Keyfrost refrigeration equipment is agri-food machinery (MACHINE DIRECTIVE 2006/42/EC), intended for treatment
of food products.
The machine is intended for the preservation of “fresh“ foodstuffs and/or products at the temperatures indicated in the annexes.
It was designed to be able to work at room temperature from +16°C to +43°C (class T).
It was designed to maintain a certain temperature in a cold room designed for such use.
The machine is not intended to be installed and used in cells located outside.
The machine is not intended to be installed and used in an atmosphere at risk of explosion.
Any use outside the permitted ones is considered “improper use“ and therefore the manufacturer disclaims any responsibility for it.
The unit is not intended to be used for the storage of products that develop corrosive substances.
